This is about Affirmative to Negative- HSC Grammar. If you practice it more and more, you will be benefited. Let’s start.

Affirmative to Negative:

Rule 1: Only বা alone এর পরিবর্তে উত্তর বাক্যের শুরুতে None but বসে। আর কোন পরিবর্তন হয়না।
Affirmative: Only he can play good cricket.
Negative: None but he can play good cricket.
Affirmative: Only the science students can apply for the post.
Negative: None but the science students can apply for the post. .
Note:
বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে only এর পরিবর্তে nothing but বসে। তবে বয়সের ক্ষেত্রে বা সংখ্যার ক্ষেত্রে only এর পরিবর্তে not more than বসে।
Affirmative: It begets only the worst. (J.B-2012)
Negative: It begets nothing but the worst.
Affirmative: It takes only a few seconds to transmit a message from one country to another (Ctg.B-2012)
Negative: It takes not more than a few seconds to transmit a message from one country to another.
Affirmative: But the cook told him that this duck had only one leg. (R.B-2010)
Negative: But the cook told him that this duck had not more than one leg.

 

 

 


Rule 2: Affirmative sentence
must থাকলে negative করার সময় must এর পরিবর্তে cannot but/ cannot help বসে। তবে cannot help এর পরে যে verb থাকে তার সাথে ing যুক্ত করতে হয়।
Affirmative: Everybody must be conscious of health. (R.B-2014)
Negative: Everybody can’t but be conscious of health.
Affirmative: We must protect them. (C.B-2011)
Negative: We cannot but protect them.


Rule 3: Every
কে Negative করতে হলে every এর পরিবর্তে There is no বসে + every এর পরের শব্দটি বসে + but + প্রদত্ত sentence এর বাকী অংশ।
Affirmative: Everybody wants friends. (Ctg. B-2016)
Negative: There is no body but wants friends?
Affirmative: Everyone hates a terrorist.
Negative: There is no one but hates a terrorist.
Note1: Every কে Negative করতে হলে every এর পরিবর্তে There is no বসে + every এর পরের শব্দটি বসে + who + does not + মূল verb এর base form বসে|
Affirmative: Everybody wants friends. (Ctg. B-2016)
Negative: There is nobody who does not want friends.

Affirmative: Everybody wishes to be happy.
Negative: There is nobody who does not wish to be happy.

Note 2: Every কে Negative করতে হলে every এর পরিবর্তে no এবং বাক্যস্থিত Affirmative শব্দটির বিপরীত বসাতে হবে।

Affirmative: Everybody wants friends. (Ctg. B-2016)
Negative: Nobody wants enemy.


Rule 4:  As soon as যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে– As soon as এর জায়গায় no sooner had বসবে + প্রদত্ত
Sentence
এরকর্তাবসে+ সেSentence এরমূলverb এরv3 বসে+ সেsentence বাকীঅংশবসে+ than + দ্বিতীয়বাক্যবসে।

Affirmative: As soon as the master sat down to eat, he noticed the missing leg. (Dn.B-2014)
Negative: No sooner had the master sit down to eat than he noticed the missing leg.
Affirmative: As soon as he he saw the tiger, he ran away.
Negative: No sooner had he seen the Tiger than he ran away. 


Rule 5: Affirmative sentence
কে Negative করার সময় উক্ত sentence এর Affirmative শব্দটির Opposite রূপ বসাতে হয়। এবং উক্ত Opposite এর পূর্বে not বসাতে হয়। বাকী সব থিক থাকে।
Affirmative: Helal refused the money.(JeB-2016)
Negative:  Helal did not accept the money.
Affirmative: It is very difficult for a poor country like Bangladesh to bear this high expense. (Sy. B-2014)
Negative: It is not so easy for a poor country like Bangladesh to bear this high expense.
Affirmative: A life with an assignment is an actual life. (D.B-2013)
Negative: A life without an assignment is not an actual life .
Affirmative: At this the sailors were very angry with him. (J.B-2013)
Negative: At this the sailors were not very happy with him.
Affirmative: It lives together. (B.B-2011)
Negative: It does not live alone.
Affirmative: The parks are crowded.(B.B-2016)
Negative: The parks not empty.


Rule 6: Always
যুক্ত Affirmative sentence কে Negative করতে হলে Always এর পরিবর্তে never বসে। Affirmative শব্দটির opposite রূপ বসাতে হয়।
Affirmative: They will always be remembered by their countrymen to the end. (CoB-2016)
Negative: They will never be forgotten by their countrymen to the end.
Affirmative: We always remember their memories. (Sy. B-2011)
Negative: We never forget their memories.


Rule 7: Superlative degree
যুক্ত Affirmative sentence কে Negative করতে হলে – No other + superlative এর পরের অংশ + verb + as + superlative degree এরpositive form + as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.
Affirmative: He is the best player. (D.B-2010)
Negative: No other player is as good as he.
Affirmative: He is the best batsman in the team.
Negative: No other batsman in the team is as good as he.


Rule 8: Than any other/than all other
যুক্তcomparative degree কে Negative করতে হলে – No other + any other/all other এর পরের অংশ বসে + প্রদত্ত verb + so/as বসে + comparative degree এর positive form +as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.
Affirmative: He is better than any other boy in the class.
Negative: No other boy in the class is as good as he.
Affirmative: Dhaka is bigger than all other cities in Bangladesh.
Negative: No other city in Bangladesh is as big as Dhaka.


Rule 9: Than যুক্ত comparative degree কে Negative করতে হলে – Than এর শেষের অংশ প্রথমে বসে + verb (tense person অনুযায়ী) + not + so/as + comparative degree এরpositive form + as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.
Affirmative: He is stronger than you.
Negative: You are not as/so strong as he.
Affirmative: I am taller than you.
Negative: You are not as tall as me.


Rule 10: As….as যুক্ত positive degree কে Negative করতে হলে –  প্রথম as এর পরিবর্তে not less শেষ as এর পরিবর্তে than বসে।
Affirmative: Robi and Rahat were as strong as Rakib.
Negative: Robi and Rahat were not less strong than Rakib.
Affirmative: He is as good as you.
Negative: He is not less good than you. 


Rule 11: Less…than যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে –
Less এর জায়গায় not as বসবে এবং than এর জায়গায় as বসবে।

Affirmative: He is less ugly than you said.
Negative: He is not as ugly as you said.
Affirmative: You are less good than he said.
Negative: You are not as good as he said. 


Rule 12: Too…..to যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে –
Too এর জায়গায় so বসে + Too এর পরের adjective/adverb বসে + that বসে + পনুরায় subject বসে। + tense অনুযায়ী cannot/could not + প্রদত্ত to এর পরের অংশ বসে।

Affirmative: He is too weak to walk.
Negative: He is so weak that he cannot walk.
Affirmative: The sum was too difficult for me to work out.
Negative: The sum was so difficult for me that I could not work out. 


Rule 13: Both —- and যুক্ত affirmative Sentenceকে Negative করতে হলে Both এর পরিবর্ত Not only এবং And এর পরিবর্তBut Also বসে|

Affirmative: Both Rajib and Adib are good friends.
Negative: Not only Rajib but also Adib are good friends.
Affirmative: He took both coffee and ice-cream.
Negative

Money is what money (a) ——(do). It is the means of (b) ——(lead) worldly life. We (c) ——(lead) our life well by earning money. Shortage of money (d) ——(make) our life deplorable. We (e) ——(not, lead) our life properly in want of money. Parents, brothers, sisters, wives, friends (f) ——(neglect) one in want of money. One’s wife and children (g) ——(get separate) from one in want of money. It (h) ——(be) the symbol of unity. But to (i) ——(earn) money is not easy for all. Ability as well as capability (j) ——(require) to earn money. Money is also the symbol of fall and downfall.

No person can be happy without friends. So (a) everybody wants friends. (Negative) (b) The heart is formed for love and cannot be happy without the opportunity of giving and receiving love. (Complex) But (c) you cannot receive affection unless you give it also. (Simple) You cannot find others to love you unless you love them. (d) You cannot be happy without it. (Interrogative) (e) As love is divine, everybody wants love. (Compound).

(a) What a nice idea! (Make it assertive) (b) Charles Karoro lives in a small apartment. (Make it compound) (c) Nairobi is one of the most expensive cities. (Make it positive) (d) He has two school going children. (Make it complex) (e) His wife loves gardening. (Make it negative)

(a) Everybody longs for money. (Interrogative) (b) But people who have little money are very happy. (simple) (c) People want to be happy and they earn money. (Complex) (d) We are sure that it is a wrong idea. (Compound) More money brings more anxiety. (e) We should not be guided by money. (Passive).

(a) Traffic jam is the most serious problem in Dhaka City (Make it comparative). (b) It has become a common affair here (Make it negative). It occurs mostly during office hours. (c) Sometimes a traffic jam is so acute that it blocks about half a kilometre of a street (Make compound). (d) It kills our valuable time and works (Make it passive). (e) However, this problem can be solved by adopting some pragmatic steps (Make it complex).

(a) Sundrabans that is the unique creation of nuture is called the 52nd World Heritage Site (Simple). (b) It is called the mangrove forest (active). It is situated in the southern part of Bangladesh. (c) It is one of the biggest mangrove forests in the world (Positive). (d) Sundarban protects southern part of our country in time of natural disasters (Complex). (e) Many people go to Sundarbans to observe the natural beauties (Compound). In the forest, you not only find a natural and peaceful atmosphere there but you may be lucky enough to see the famous Royal Bengal Tigers or spotted deer.

(a) Water, a vital element of environment is polluted by various ways (Complex). It is called life. (b) The water which is pure is necessary for us (Simple). (c) People pollute water by throwing waste into it (Compound). (d) The farmers use water in time of cultivation largely (Passive). (e) It is one of the most important elements of all living beings (Positive).

Bangladesh is my adoring country. (a) It is an independent country (Make it a complex sentence). (b) We gained our freedom in 1971 at the cost of supreme sacrifice (Make it passive). (c) As soon as we gained independence, we did a glowing homage to the martyrs (Make it a negative sentence without changing the meaning). (d) Now we are trying our level best so that we can achieve our political and economic emancipation (Make it a simple sentence). (e) How sweet the taste of independence is! (Make it an assertive sentence).

Anger is nothing but a vice. (a) It begets only the worst.(negative) (b) Anger is one of the most inhuman vices. (positive) (c) So, we should control it for our own sake. (passive) (d) He who is taken by anger causes a lot of troubles. (simple) (e) Realizing it, everyone should try to be emotionally balanced. (complex).

(a) I went back to work, closing the door. (compound) (b) At first the sound of the boy’s dragging brush annoyed me. (passive) He began to chop. (c) The blows that he made were rythmic and steady. (simple) (d) The sound of his blows were more rythmic than a consistent rain. (positive) (e) Having forgotten the boy I went back to sleep. (compound)

A man may become great and good if he loves and respects his parents. (a) George Washington cut a tree in his father’s garden (Make it passive). (b) When his father saw it, he became very angry (Make it simple). (c) Though the boy trembled in fear, he did not tell a lie (Make it compound). (d) His father expressed happiness for his truthful son (Make it complex). Again, at the time of his leaving for service, his mother got upset. So, he decided not to go away breaking his mother’s heart. (e) He was one of the most devoted sons (Make it positive).

(a) Reazuddin Munsi, an owner of scanty property, was not solvent at all. (Complex) (b) Yet he tried to educate his children so that he may see them established in life. (Simple) (c) His children too were meritorious enough to pass all examinations well. (Compound) (d) Of all the students of their respective classes, they always secured the best results both in internal and external examinations. (Comparative Degree) (e) So, the people of their village always praised them in the highest possible language. (Passive Voice) All these were possible for the sacrifices of an insolvent and illiterate ploughman. (f) Indeed, his sacrifices for children cannot be measured. (Active)
