Sara is upset today as her school is close for coronavirus outbreak. Closing eyes, Sara heard the gentle voice of Ario, a fantasy creature, who helped her to be a hero. Sara met many friends throughout the world and told them how to maintain hand hygiene, respiratory manner and to deal with others, flying on the wings of Ario.

This is a story of a new book that aims to facilitate children to understand and come to terms with COVID-19. The title of the book is ‘My Hero is You, How kids can fight COVID-19’ reports a press release by WHO today.  

‘My Hero is You’ A story book for children to cope with COVID-19

The press release also reads, the book has been produced by a collaboration of more than fifty organizations, working in the humanitarian sector, including WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies, Save the Children. 


The book explains, with the help of a fantasy creature named Ario, methods children can adopt to save themselves, their families and friends from coronavirus. 

Most important for children, the ways to manage difficult emotions when they will confront a new and ever-changing reality, are nicely described in the book as well.  

According to WHO, the target readers of the book are mainly children aged from six to eleven. 

In fact, the book is a project work conducted by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Systems, a unique collaboration of United Nations agencies, national and international non-governmental organizations and international agencies that provide mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings.

My Hero is You, How kids can fight COVID-19


Under the project firstly, pragmatic experiences, on how to cope with COVID-19 pandemic, were gathered from more than 1700  children, parents, caregivers and teachers around the world. Then the book was written based on those experiences. 

The project team is sanguine that the massages in the book will resonate with children from different backgrounds and continents.  

For making the book available for as many children as possible, the book has already been translated into six languages and more than 30 others in the pipeline. It is being released as both an online product and audio book.
